Police have confirmed a body found at the scene of a fire in Christchurch was that of a homeless man.
Terrence James Palmer's body was discovered at a vacant house on Peterborough Street on Tuesday.
Detective Sergeant John Gallagher said a post-mortem carried out on Wednesday shows the 62-year-old died of smoke inhalation as a result of the fire.
Mr Gallagher said a scene examination was completed on Thursday and there was nothing to suggest that the fire is suspicious.
He said Mr Palmer was unemployed and had no fixed abode.
The investigation is continuing with the cause of the fire not yet established.
