A man is facing a murder charge after an apparent axe attack in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes.
A 55-year-old man died after an assault at his home in Aveline Place on Wednesday night.
A 28-year-old man charged with murder appeared in Auckland District Court on Thursday afternoon and was granted interim name suppression.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on 30 April.
The court requested a mental health report and also suppressed the name of the victim.
Police say the accused was known to the victim.
Outside court, police said they were carrying out a scene examination and have found some items of interest, including an axe.
