The lawyer for the man who has spent 20 years in jail for the murder and rape of Susan Burdett says the police are not co-operating in his attempt for an appeal.
Jonathan Krebs is representing Teina Pora in a miscarriage of justice case and has already lodged an appeal with the Governor General.
Pora has been twice convicted of the 1992 rape and murder of Susan Burdett, who was found bludgeoned to death in her Auckland bedroom.
Hiw lawyers say no direct evidence has ever linked him to the scene and he was convicted largely on the basis of a false confession during police interviews.
The miscarriage of justice case centres on video recordings of those interviews that were shown on television for the first time on Wednesday night.
Police say they won't comment on the merits of the case while the appeal process is pending but will co-operate fully with any lawful requests made for information.
However, Mr Krebs told Morning Report the police are not disclosing evidence that will assist his client in the appeal.
He says there has been a gross miscarriage of justice and it's a major concern that the police are not co-operating.
