Creative New Zealand is being criticised for withdrawing its sponsorship of the annual Pasifika festival in Auckland.
The agency has part-sponsored the last three Pasifika festivals, but refused a request for $65,000 for this year's event in March.
Creative New Zealand said it funds Pacific artists whose projects would not otherwise go ahead - which is not the case for the Pasifika festival which is getting $450,000 from Auckland Council.
The council's Pacific advisory panel said the decision should be reconsidered.
Reverend Uesifili Unasa said it raises questions about Creative New Zealand's commitment to Pacific arts and culture.
