A series of small aftershocks hit the East Coast after an earthquake offshore on Saturday evening.
The initial quake was magnitude 6.3 at 6.15pm. It was centred 195km north of Te Araroa near East Cape, at a depth of nearly 300km.
There are no reports of damage.
