Sanford has denied charges relating to an oil spill in Port Timaru last year.

The fisheries company pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by Canterbury Regional Council in Timaru District Court on Monday.

The council says a Sanford boat spilt more than 4000 litres of oil into the harbour last May.

The matter was adjourned until 13 March.
