Wanganui mayor Annette Main is cautiously optimistic that measures to fix the stench from a failing wastewater plant are working.
Treatment ponds were doused with lime last week to suppress strong odours that began before Christmas.
Ms Main says she did not receive any emails on the weekend complaining about the smell, the first such weekend she's had in six weeks.
She says she spent the weekend out and about at the Masters Games, hosted by the city, and could not smell the odour.
Consultants Cardno BTO have been brought in to fix the smell and look at long-term options for the plant, which has not processed waste properly since it started in 2007.
