Firefighters are continuing to work on containment lines of the large fire on Great Barrier Island that's been burning for four days and could take another two weeks to extinguish.
Chief rural fire officer for Auckland Bryan Cartelle said the situation was looking good, with fire crews continuing to cut and strengthen containment lines.
But he said a high dust layer under pine trees could extend the time it takes to fully put out the fire, which has burned more than 100 hectares.
Mr Cartelle says 40 or so firefighters will remain there until the fire has been put out.
It is one of several scrub fires in the Auckland region over the past week and the Auckland Council has now imposed a fire ban for both urban and rural areas.
