After a two-year audit of more than 100 beaches, Surf Life Saving New Zealand has launched a website to help beachgoers find a suitable, and safe, beach.
The organisation says its volunteers make 1500 rescues each summer at New Zealand's beaches.
The website, called Find a Beach, gives continually updated information regarding weather, swells, hazards and facilities; offers a rating system for activities such as swimming and fishing; and advises whether a beach is family-friendly.
