Police are investigating the unexplained death of a nine-year-old boy discovered at his home in Raetihi on early on Friday.
They say the body was discovered by a family member who notified police and ambulance services.
Officers are interviewing witnesses and an examination of the scene has begun.
Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Borrell says a post-mortem will be completed later in the day.
