Three people died after a head on collision on the Kapiti Coast on Sunday with the accident blocking traffic for several hours.
A woman in her mid-twenties and an elderly man died at the scene after their cars collided head on near Peka Peka Road between Waikanae and Otaki shortly before 5pm.
An elderly woman, who was flown to Wellington Hospital, died on Sunday evening.
Traffic was banked up around the scene for more than two hours all the way south to Paraparaumu and north to Otaki.
Inspector Mike Colman says the crash was in the 'worst possible position' and it was impossible to divert traffic.
