A woman has suffered serious injuries after falling off her bike during the Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge.
The 42-year-old was treated by St John ambulance paramedics at the scene on Saturday and flown by helicopter to Rotorua Hospital with a suspected fractured thigh bone.
The woman was part of a relay team and had just started her ride when she strayed into loose gravel cycling up Kuratau Hill and fell off.
Twenty-nine people have been treated for injuries ranging from rib fractures to gravel burns by Saturday evening.
