A man suffered cuts and burns after jumping from his window to escape a house fire in Rotorua.
Emergency services were called to the fire in the single-storey home at Wrigley Road in the suburb of Fordlands at 5am on Sunday.
The Fire Service says the man suffered burns and cuts to his foot. Other occupants of the house were unhurt.
Firecracker starts house fire
In the upper North Island fire crews were called to several fireworks-related incidents on Saturday night.
A family had to flee their home in the Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe because of a ceiling fire started by a firecracker on the roof.
There have also been several scrub fires.
