6:11 pm on 12 January 2009

Ten tourists had to be evacuated from a boat in Fiordland after suffering an unknown illness on Sunday night.

The Southern Lakes Rescue Helicopter company says the group was evacuated from a boat at Deep Cove in Doubtful Sound before being taken to Te Anau Medical Centre by ambulance.

Elizabeth Scott treated five of the tourists for diarrhoea and vomiting.

Dr Scott says food poisoning was a possible cause.
