A New Zealand man has been charged with raping two teenage girls, child abuse and human trafficking after being arrested in the Philippines.
The 50-year-old was arrested in Davao City after several days of surveillance, the Sun Star newspaper quoted Superintendent Renante Cabico of Kidapawan City police as saying.
He was already on a watch list and had visited the country three times before. He has since been granted name suppression, AAP reports.
The man is reported as working as an assistant manager of a Mozambique company.
Superintendent Cabico said the girls from Kidapawan, aged 12 and 13, told police they were hired by two women at a public market and were taken to a hotel room where they were molested one after another.
The girls subsequently contracted a sexually transmitted disease.
The man was about to check out from his hotel and travel back to South Africa when police raided his room.
The Sun Star reported that on Monday the man was charged under rape, anti-child abuse and anti-trafficking laws.
The girls are in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Davao City.
