Major redevelopment of Cashel Mall proposed

A major retail, office and hospitality development in Christchurch's Cashel Mall is one of three projects proposed for the same parcel of land.

But a spokesperson for Ocean Partners, which is behind the development, says he's confident his proposal will be successful.

Tim Howe has sent an outline development plan to the Christchurch Central Development Unit (CCDU) for feedback and will apply to the city council for resource consents.

The proposal will then go to a panel of local agencies for final approval.

Mr Howe says the multilevel development with 28,000 square metres of floor space would be sited between Cashel and Lichfield streets.

He says he believes many of the land's 13 different owners support the proposal and that, as long as it delivers what they want, it has a strong prospect of success.

The CCDU says it will begin meetings next week with developers who have proposed major projects - covering at least 7500 square metres - for the central shopping precinct.

It says while the plans are confidential, it's pleased with the level of interest from businesses.
