Four people are to lose their jobs, and thousands of young people may miss out on medical care, when New Plymouth's only free youth health service closes on Friday.
The Waves youth centre will shut its health clinic after its last appointment on Friday because it has no funding to keep going.
Two medical staff, a receptionist and a youth development officer will be made redundant.
About 3000 people, aged between 10 and 25, are registered at the clinic.
Waves Trust chairman, Garth Clarricoats, says funding from the district health board has fallen through, but the Trust will continue to receive money from Contact Energy.
He says the remaining programmes for at-risk young people will also be cut back.
