2:45 pm on 4 September 2012

Police have begun a homicide investigation following the death of a woman in Upper Hutt last week.

Mary Donnelly, 38, was found dead in her flat in Ebdentown Street by family members last Wednesday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton, of Hutt Valley, says the death is confirmed as suspicious and a homicide investigation has started.

Mr Thornton says he can't disclose how she died, but can confirm it was as a result of an injury.

Ms Donnelly had an intellectual disability but was living independently in her flat with the support of a caregiver and her family.

A team of 20 police officers plus forensic experts are working on the case and are appealing to the public for information.
