Organisers of the moustache-growing fundraiser Movember say tougher economic times could be responsible for this year's campaign falling flat.
Movember has raised about $600,000 for the Cancer Society and Mental Health Foundation this year - less than a third of the $2.16 million raised last year.
Movember organiser Jim Slattery said the economic squeeze and a misconception that the campaign might not be run this year may have been a factor.
However, he said the campaign is more than just about raising money, as it also encourages men to think about men's health issues.
