River man's identity now known

Police in Hamilton now think they know the identity of a man seen in the Waikato River on 16 August.

A man was seen in the water at night. but emergency services were unable to find anyone and until now, no one has been reported missing.

Police say the family of a man has contacted them concerned about his whereabouts.

A jacket found in the river during the initial search is similar to one he is thought to have owned.

A search by boat resumed on Tuesday morning between the Fairfield bridge and Ngaruawahia.
