Canterbury regional council duty flood controller Phil Lees says the Timaru flood control room is being set up again in preparation for the forecast rain.
Mr Lees says a large volume of rain is expected to fall between Sunday morning and Monday evening.
He says the ground is already saturated from 320mm of rain in the last 10 days.
Mr Lees says local streams and rivers will rise rapidly with the extra run-off from the latest rain, and extensive flooding could occur very quickly.
