Wounded NZ soldiers flown to Germany

10:44 am on 8 August 2012

Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman says all but one of the six New Zealand soldiers wounded in Afghanistan during the weekend have been flown to hospital in Germany.

The soldiers were wounded during a gun battle with insurgents that killed two of their comrades on Saturday, when their unit was ambushed.

Two of the five taken to Germany suffered serious wounds, but are in a stable condition.

The most seriously wounded soldier is also stable, but has remained in a military hospital in northern Afghanistan.

Dr Coleman says the man has not yet been moved because he needs a critical-care team to travel with him.
