A child advocacy group says justice has been served by the conviction of a comedian who did an indecent act on his daughter.
The man, who has name suppression to protect his victim, was originally discharged without conviction but the Crown challenged that ruling and asked for a judicial review. In the Auckland District Court on Friday he was given eight months' home detention.
The judge cited a probation report that says the sexual offending was a one-off and the man had shown extreme remorse for his actions.
However, the judge says the gravity of the offending was high and the conviction not out of proportion to the offending.
Stop Demand founder Denise Ritchie, who attended the sentencing, says: "The court has made it clear that any sex crime against a child is a very serious matter, and a sentence needs to both denounce the crime and deter others."
The incident took place in December 2009 after the man attended a work Christmas party and came home intoxicated.
