The New Zealand Herald reports two elderly women have died after contracting listeria. Hawke's Bay District Health Board says it cannot rule out whether the patients contracted the disease whilst in its care.
And a new wife, new job, new life - Willie Apiata, VC, has confirmed he is leaving the Defence Force to work with young people.

The Waikato Times also leads with the listeria outbreak in Hawke's Bay.
A house on River Road is pictured well ablaze during the early hours of Wednesday. The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, is the latest in a spate of property fires in Waikato during the last six weeks.

The Dominion Post also covers the listeria being discovered at Hawke's Bay hospital. The paper reports two other people have been infected by the bacterium but have recovered.
The Press
The Press says a $200 million new subdivision at Rolleston is expected to boost the town's population by 4000. More than 1000 sections will be created at Faringdon on former farmland just south of the town's existing homes.
The paper also carries a warning from the real estate industry that Christchurch househunters need to be 'very careful' when buying an earthquake-damaged property or risk being caught short on insurance cover.

The Otago Daily Times says the Southern police district was a hot spot for cannabis seized in the country this year. Police seized 281kg of cannabis plant material nation-wide during the first six months of this year and the biggest haul was in the Southern police district where 54kg was seized.
