Police want information on 1976 cold case

7:39 pm on 18 July 2012

Police in the Bay of Plenty are renewing an appeal for information about the fatal shooting of a security guard during a Rotorua bank robbery more than 30 years ago.

Howard Percy, who worked at an ANZ bank in Rotorua, was shot twice when he tackled a robber on 5 November 1976.

He died on the way to hospital.

The bank, on Old Taupo Road, was robbed in July the same year, during which Mr Percy and two tellers were tied up and about $13,000 in cash stolen.

An investigation into the death was conducted but no one was charged.

A small team of police officers is now looking at the case again.
