Man was lying on road when hit - police

4:08 pm on 16 July 2012

Police in Waikato say it's likely a man who died after being hit by a car on 15 January was lying on the road at the time.

William Hoskins, 26, died after being struck in the early hours of the morning on State Highway 1B, just south of Hamilton by a car towing a trailer, which failed to stop.

Last week, police dropped a charge of careless driving causing death against the driver saying there was not enough evidence.

They now say Mr Hoskins was wearing dark clothing and lying on the road, which was unlit and has a speed limit of 100km an hour.

The death has been referred to the Coroner.
