Crusaders win in Christchurch

10:08 pm on 14 July 2012

The Crusaders have clinched fourth place on the Super Rugby table by beating the Western Force at AMI Stadium in Christchurch on Saturday night.

In the end, the Cantabrians cantered home by 38 points to 24 with tries by Israel Dagg, Andrew Ellis, Sean Maitland, Matt Todd and three conversions by Dan Carter.

Tonight's win means it is the 14th time in 17 years the Crusaders have made the Super Rugby playoffs.

Across the Tasman, the Blues beat the Brumbies 30 to 16 at Canberra Stadium.

It was a consolation win for the Blues in their final match of this year's Super Rugby season as the Auckland franchise is already out of the running for the finals playoffs after a hugely disappointing season.

It was just their fourth win.

The Brumbies can still qualify for next week's playoffs but their slender chances depend on the outcome of the match between the Warratahs and the Reds, which is now underway in Brisbane.
