Tourism agency to meet councillors about V8s

7:55 am on 8 July 2012

The Auckland Council agency in charge of tourism will reveal all details of a deal to bring the V8 supercar series to the city when it meets some councillors this week.

On Thursday, the council voted in favour of hosting the V8s at Pukekohe for five years.

But on Friday, Cr Cathy Casey asked the Auditor-General to look at why councillors were not given a full report by Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development into due diligence and risk.

However, the agency says two briefings were held for councillors before the vote.

It says some detail was not revealed on Thursday because of commercial sensitivity, but it would have been provided if the information been requested at the earlier briefings, .

Five councillors and the Franklin Board chairperson have formed a sub-committee and will get a full report on the deal from the agency on Wednesday.

The council plans to spend about $10 million as part of the deal, partly to upgrade the Pukekohe circuit.
