Anglican synod to discuss gay and lesbian marriage

7:07 pm on 5 July 2012

A delegation of senior members of the Anglican church in New Zealand will discuss the issue of same sex marriage and ordination at the church's biennial synod in Fiji.

Church spokesperson the reverend Jayson Rhodes says the council will explore how the church should respond to gay and lesbian Anglican couples who want to marry, and whether being gay is a barrier to ordination.

Mr Rhodes says the synod will also discuss the need for free elections in Fiji.

About 160 church members from New Zealand and overseas will attend the meeting.
