A former Waikato bank manager has been sentenced to seven and a half years' jail on 81 charges of fraud will serve a minimum term of three years
Susan Bourton, 36, pleaded guilty to 25 charges and was found guilty of the remaining 56 at a trial earlier this year.
Her offending occurred between 2001 and 2007, some of it while she was on bail on earlier charges.
The Crown says while it is impossible to put a precise figure on the offending, it amounted to about $1.4 million.
In the Hamilton District Court Judge Philip Connell described Bourton's offending over a period of 10 years as very complex and driven by greed.
He says Bourton was able to manipulate and exploit people who had the utmost trust in her.
Judge Connell says Bourton adopted a lavish lifestyle she couldn't pay for and covered her trail of deceit by using a sophisticated web of moving money around.
A last minute letter of remorse sent to the judge this morning was all but discounted by him.
One of her victims, Lorraine Gould, and her partner nearly lost their home after Bourton stole about $750,000 from them in various scams.
Ms Gould says she doesn't believe Bourton has an ounce of remorse for her actions and the sentence is justice for what Bourton's victims suffered over the years.
