Police treat Paeroa death as homicide

5:05 pm on 18 June 2012

Waikato police say there is enough concern around the death of a Paeroa man on Sunday night or Monday morning for them to treat it as a homicide.

A businessman was found dead behind his restaurant in the town's main street early on Monday, and his body was sent for a post mortem in Auckland on Tuesday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead says the man is yet to be formally identified.

Police decline to say how the man died or what his injuries are but confirm that there is sign of some trauma.

But they are looking at the possibility of a link between the man's death and an attempted aggravated robbery in Waihi and a robbery in Katikati on Sunday night.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the town early on Monday.
