Treaty of Waitangi document to be rehoused

The Government has confirmed New Zealand's founding document, the Treaty of Waitangi, will be moved to a new home in Wellington in 2013.

The nine sheets are at present housed at Archives New Zealand, but will be moved to the newly refurbished National Library building in Molesworth Street.

Internal Affairs Minister Chris Tremain hopes the redeveloped National Library will encourage more people to visit and see the Treaty (Te Tiriti o Waitangi).

The decision to move the document was supported by local iwi Taranaki Whanui ki Te Upoko o Te Ika, he says.
