Orana Wildlife Park closed by damaged fences

Orana Wildlife Park in Christchurch is closed until further notice.

Wednesday's snow storm resulted in significant damage, notably to its dangerous carnivore fences.

Chief executive Lynn Anderson says the lion and tiger fences sustained major damage, but the animals are secure inside their buildings.

Ms Anderson says countless trees are resting on fences and numerous large branches pose a danger to people.

She hopes the park will be open again next week.
