A former director of Five Star Finance has avoided a prison sentence and faces nine months home detention and 100 hours community work.

Anthony Bowden pleaded guilty to fraud charges in April, after the company went into receivership in 2007 owing $46 million.

He is the third person to be sentenced after the company was investigated by the Serious Fraud Office.

The other two defendants received prison sentences of more than two years in 2010.
