A former national road policing manager has been named on an independent taskforce to review New Zealand's health and safety system.

Superintendent Paula Rose, who retired earlier this year, is one of six members on the taskforce that will carry out the first review of the system in 20 years.

It will be chaired by Rob Jager, the current chair of Shell Companies and general manager of Shell Todd Services.

Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson announced the review in May.

The taskforce will consult the public before reporting back to the minister by the end of this year.
