Police investigating a double death near Waimate have released photos of the car of a man found alongside a Czech tourist.

Dagmar Pytlickova, known as Dasha, was found dead in a remote South Canterbury forest block on Sunday 27 May next to the body of Jason Frandi from Waimate.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marion Neill says the focus of the investigation is now on establishing the movements of Ms Pytlickova, 31, and Mr Frandi, aged 45, on the afternoon of Saturday 26 May.

Ms Neill says the last confirmed sighting of Mr Frandi was in Waimate at 12.17pm on the Saturday and Ms Pytlickova was last seen in a gravel area on State Highway 8 near the Cromwell Bridge about 3pm.

Police believe the woman was trying to hitch-hike to South Canterbury.

They are appealing for any sightings of Jason Frandi's car, a 1997 two-door silver BMW.
