Heavy rain warning for parts of North Island

4:00 pm on 5 October 2008

Heavy rain warnings are in place for parts of the North Island.

MetService says a front is forecast to move across the lower island and then become slow-moving over central regions on Sunday night.

Up to 180mm of rain could fall in the Tararua Ranges through to Sunday afternoon.

Further heavy rain is also expected to fall until the early Monday morning around Mt Taranaki, Mt Ruapehu, Waitomo, Taumaranui, and the headwaters of the Whanganui River.

That could total up to 80mm, and is prompting MetService to advise people to watch out for rapidly rising watercourses, and the risk of floods or slips.
