Man fined over war medals believed to be on board

A politician from the Kapiti Coast fined for a dishonesty offence is understood to still be on a local community board.

Donald Moselen was president of the Otaki Returned and Services Association and chaired Otaki Community Board.

He was fined $500 in court this week after admitting that he had worn four medals, including a Vietnam medal, during Anzac Day parades but had not earned them.

The man has resigned from his leadership posts, but Otaki Community Board member James Cootes says he believes Moselen is still a member of the board.

Mr Cootes says Donald Moselen has worked hard for the town near Wellington, but his behaviour has divided the community.

Otaki resident Ann Chapman, a former local body politican, says Moselen's behaviour is regrettable and the community feels betrayed, but locals should not forget the good work he has done.
