Fault cuts phone, internet services in Waiuku

5:05 pm on 1 June 2012

A telecommunications fault has cut phone and internet services to about 5000 residents in Waiuku, in the Franklin District.

Local telecommunications network operator Chorus says the fault occurred about 1pm when a contractor working in the area accidentally damaged the telecommunications cable linking the town's phone and broadband services to the wider network.

Residents are unable to use their broadband service or call outside the local area, but can still make 111 emergency calls.

Chorus says it expects to have customers back online on Friday night.
