NZ Defence personnel arrive in Syria

10:43 pm on 25 May 2012

Six New Zealand Defence Force personnel have arrived in Syria to join the United Nations supervision mission.

Earlier in May, the Government offered personnel as military observers to monitor the ceasefire agreed.

The UN mission is mandated to provide up to 300 unarmed observers to Syria.

New Zealand will also provide $1 million to help support more than 30,000 Syrian refugees who have fled to Turkey.
