The Commissioner appointed to run Moerewa School has ordered senior students to be off the school grounds by Friday.
The community is resisting pressure from the Ministry of Education to send its NCEA-level pupils to nearby Bay of Islands College, after poor results in literacy and numeracy.
The seventeen pupils have continued to turn up at the school this term, despite the official closure of their senior unit.
A parent, Michael Butler, says it is not clear what the ministry expects the students to do after Friday - but there is no way their parents are sending them to Bay of Islands College.
"Now the majority of our children are ex-Bay of Islands children, from the Bay of Islands college, and the worst thing about it is just recently, in term two, we've had two more of our children come back to us because of Bay of Islands college - they've been suspended."
Michael Butler says Moerewa parents want their children enrolled as a group with the Correspondence School but the under 16-year-olds need ministry consent, and so far they do not have it.
The Commissioner, Mike Eru, was not available for comment.
