Police in Matamata are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who tried to get a girl into his car while she was walking to school on Friday.
They say the girl was approached by an unknown man near the corner of Short and Smith streets at about 8am.
The man is described as being 50 - 60 years old with pale skin, a bushy beard and with grey hair which appeared curly under a black beanie he was wearing.
He was driving a red four-door sedan with possibly fading paint work.
Police want anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information on the man's identity, to come forward.
