The Independent Maori Statutory Board is finalising a plan it hopes Auckland Council will use to improve Maori well-being.
The board has begun 10 days of hui discussing the plan, which spells out issues that Auckland Maori want dealt with.
These include lifting incomes, education and workplace skills, health and representation on public bodies.
Chair David Taipari says the board will devise plans of action it hopes will be picked up by the council.
He says in the past councils were reluctant to address Maori issues, because of uncertainty about what was needed.
