A teenager has appeared in the New Plymouth Youth Court charged with murder.
A 50-year-old woman was shot in her home north of Taranaki on Sunday afternoon.
Any details that would identify the woman and the boy have been suppressed.
The 13-year-old has been remanded in custody to a Child Youth and Family facility until Friday.
Meanwhile, police say a foresenic scene examination at the property where the shooting occured will continue on Tuesday.
They say they have also been looking at a vehicle that was driven from the property after the shooting.
Police say a post-mortem on the woman will be carried out on Tuesday.
