Hamilton family tries to stop V8 event

Next week's V8 Supercar race in Hamilton is in jeopardy as a family living within metres of the track takes legal action to try to stop it going ahead.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the event, from 20 - 22 April, which is being hosted in the city for the final time.

Paul Smart says he and his family feel unsafe being so close to the race and for the course of the three-day event will be trapped in their home with no way of driving out.

He says the previous promoter paid for them to stay somewhere else but last year a new promoter, V8 Supercars, took over the event and isn't honouring that arrangement.

"We just feel like we are just hugely vulnerable here and we believe we should be taken care of. This is an accident waiting to happen."

Mr Smart says the company has ignored his pleas, so his lawyer is lodging an injunction at the High Court to try to stop the event.
