Team New Zealand's Volvo Ocean Race entry has officially suspended racing as it prepares to undergo repairs in Chile.

Camper stopped racing on Tuesday, but still has 300km to go to Puerto Montt where the team will meet up with their shore-based crew to carry out repairs to the bulkhead.

The yacht is expected to arrive in port on Wednesday and work is expected to take three days.

Camper is currently in fifth place 3200km behind leg leader Puma and still has over 5000km to sail to reach the end of the leg in Itajai in Brazil.
