Name suppression has lapsed for a police recruit accused of raping a woman while he was training at the Police College in Porirua.

Mark James Tulloch, 30, appeared in the High Court in Wellington last week charged with sexual violation by rape.

At last week's hearing, Mr Tulloch's lawyer sought continued name suppression, but Justice Simon France declined the application.

He gave Mr Tulloch until Tuesday to apply to the Court of Appeal for continued name suppression but no application has been made.

Mr Tulloch's trial will take place in March.
