Occupy group leaves Hagley Park

The Occupy Christchurch protest group says it has left the site it has occupied in Hagley Park for the past five months.

Last week the Christchurch City Council unanimously agreed to remove the protesters but said it would also help them to find alternative housing.

A spokesperson for the Occupy group, Rik Tindall, says while members are part of the global Occupy movement, some also lack accommodation as a result of the earthquakes.

Mr Tindall says some might now be living on cleared land in the city beside unsafe buildings.

He says the group will work with the council and the Gap Filler Project to find an alternative space.
