Some Tongan community leaders in New Zealand are disappointed the body of King George Tupou V will be flown directly to Tonga without a stop in Auckland.

The 63-year-old monarch who ruled for six years died in Hong Kong on Sunday.

The chair of the Auckland-based Tongan Advisory Council says Tongans in New Zealand would have liked to have paid their respects.

Malino Maka says many people are still in shock about King George's death.
