Police still seeking 'dangerous' man who broke parole

6:45 am on 18 March 2012

The police in Wellington are continuing to hunt for a wanted parolee who evaded officers and abandoned a car containing a hammer and several knives.

Mathew George Kidman, 31, who has been in prison for drugs and firearms offences, is considered dangerous.

The police say he should not be approached and any sightings of him should be reported to the police.

They say Kidman, who sparked an armed offenders callout in 2008, has broken his parole conditions.

On Saturday they expressed confidence that he is still in the Wellington region, more than 24 hours after he drove through a routine police checkpoint in Lower Hutt.

The wanted man is Caucasian and of thin build.
